Oh,...Snap!

Is it just me, or does everyone I talk to lately seem to be just a little cranky? The slightly off center variety, kind of "I have one nerve left, and you're stepping on it?" crabby? For the last few days people I encounter everywhere just seem to be in a foul mood. I don't know if it's winter wearing it's welcome a bit too thin, boredom, or what, but it's starting to make me a little cranky!

So, I decided I needed to do something positive, to make myself feel happier, and in turn, maybe my cheerful demeaner will make those crabby-appletons I run into feel a little bit better, too. (Yes, I can be happy to the point of being infectious!)

I am going to list ten (count 'em) 10 things that make me really happy! Seems easy enough to do, and I figure if I start thinking about happy, positive things, I will FEEL happy! (the power of positive thinking!) Remember, your brain is the most powerful tool you own! (and you thought it was something made by Craftsman! Either that, or something you keep in the nightstand next to the bed, but we won't get into that one now!) :-O (Oh, I am BAD!)

In no particular order, then, here are ten things that make me happy, amuse me in some way, make me laugh, or feel warm and fuzzy all over (again, thinking it's something that you keep in the nightstand next to the bed, but no...) *tee-hee*

***********My Happy List***********

1. Cranking my music really loud, singing along (I do believe I'm the next American Idol) and dancing! Oh, yeah, I bust a move, people!

2. Taking a shower when I have no where to be at a certain time, no one waiting for me to get out of the shower, just relaxing and enjoying the warmth of the water and the nice smell of my shower gel.

3. Howling with our dog, Charlie. (Yes, you read that right!) If I howl, he howls along with me, almost like we're singing together. We exchange people/dog karma or something, it makes him happy, his tail wags and we bond!

4. Riding my bike through the forest preserve bike trail in the summer. There is a part of the trail that is downhill. My favorite thing to do is pedal really fast (uphill, it's not easy, but worth it!) and then glide for what seems forever downhill. Wheeee! The kid in me comes out every time!

5. Listening to my children laugh together. Every once in awhile Brian will get a case of the giggles. He'll start telling a story to Andrew that he thinks is particularly funny, and before he can get the entire thing out, he starts to laugh. Like... soulful, can't catch your breath, belly laughing! It doesn't matter what the story is about, or if it's even funny or not, Andrew will start laughing, too. Before I know it, the two of them are doubled over, tears streaming down their cheeks from laughing so hard,..it's the funniest thing to watch!

6. Going to Cold Stone creamery for ice cream! Reading the menu of all the different creations, then watching them prepare it, yum! A little slice of heaven!

7. My husband's neck massage. The man has incredible hands and gives the BEST neck massage, EVER! Any tension or headache just slips away!

8. Taking a walk with my best friend, Michelle. We walk in the morning, after the kids are in school. The neighborhood is quiet, the day is fresh, and we talk about everything and anything. I tell her she is my "therapist", and I am hers.

9. Watching my kids participate in all their sports and school activities brings me joy! I feel so proud of them, for putting themselves out there, giving it all they've got. Nothing compares to Momma Pride! (except maybe Papa Pride)

10. Talking to a baby can instantly change a bad mood to a happy one for me. Who can remain crabby when an adorable baby is in the cart in front of you while waiting in line at the grocery store? A few smiles or giggles from a little one and I am happy, happy, happy!

Just writing about what makes me feel good, makes me feel good! So, what makes you feel happy? Is it a person, an animal, a favorite place or activity? I love learning about what make you guys tick! (and I'm nosey) :-) C'mon, you can tell me!

Good for you for doing this. I'm guilty of being cranky but I sweat it's cuz I'm sick. I am normally over the top bubbly at all times - but this illness has kicked my butt.

The purse from my in-laws is awesome. My MIL is alwasys giving me awesome handbags - she's the reason I have a certified obsession now!

I love your list...Mmmm to Coldstone~ Yum Yummy.

What makes me happy?
My family of course
listening to children giggle
ice cream
a sunny day
a peaceful stroll
a bowl of soup
BBQ Ribs
spaghetti with cheesy garlic bread
baby smiles
kindness
seeing the kids learn something new
giving to others
seeing their happiness
ok, I could go on for awhile...
my laptop
wireless
my house, cracked walls and all
Lizzie, it comes down to this... I have a good life, full of craziness, sleeplessness, love and lots of happiness.

I can't complain.

Surprisingly, since I decided I was OVER letting the work situation get to me, I've been pretty cheery on this end, too. But this post of yours sealed the deal! The same things make us happy--although I will admit I will NOT plant my fat arse on a bike again until I'm sure no one will tell me to get off and give the bike a ride :)! I LOVE the babies-in-the-carts-in-front-of-me; I usually try to engage them in a rousing game of peek-a-boo. But, likewise, if there is a kid being a brat, I love giving him/her the hell stare behind the clueless mom's back; I have turned many a screaming brat silent with that stare--HAHAHA! The things that make me really happy would probably make people think I am a real simpleton :) because it truly doesn't take much! The Cold Stone Creamery is a good start--have you tried the apple pie one? Oh my heaven! And the banana split one...Okay, enough of that! I love how my girl cat looks me right in the eye and seems so interested in everything I do (or else she's plotting how to turn me into a giant treat). I love how I taught my boy cat how to air kiss, and all I have to do is make a kissy noise and he will give me a kiss and then run away. I like my livingroom. And my adjustable bed with the massager. Grape popsicles. And Barilla whole-wheat pasta. And my girlfriend's cabin (aka My Happy Place) "Up North" in Grand Marais. So, you get the idea! Gosh, when I really think about it, I could go on and on! I really, really enjoy working the concession stand and watching that same friend's boys play b-ball. Water--lakes, rivers, oceans, any large body of water. Okay, make me stop! And you, Lizzy--I really like you, too!

I am having a crabby day too, thanks for cheering me up. I am with you on 1 -4 and I can't wait until my boys do #5.... I can get Jack to belly laugh just by laughing myself. I do it when he's mad and he can't stay mad no matter how hard he tries. and he tries really hard.

Thanks Lizzy, I feel a little lighter after reading this :-)

I'm with you on that list! It's wise to focus on what you like. Everyone is off center lately. Today I went to Walgreens and the photo attendant asked me to come back 2 hours later when she was off her lunch break!

Ya kidding me? :)

This is for you:

Will it cheer you up maybe just a little?

I love those things Lizzy, I feel so much happier already!
I'm the resident crank here, everyone is taking turns being sick, and if not sick, then irritable (my 3 yo).
That ice cream looked so amazingly decadent!
I also love talking to babies. Aside from the obvious (my kids when they're in a good mood), a really good workout, in true shopaholic fashion, a sale at my favourite stores is guaranteed to bring a smile to my face.

what a great list! It made me happy just reading it :)
There are two things that ALWAYS makes me happy: watching my girls play together and hearing them giggle as they make up games, and watching my husband playing with the girls.

No matter how bad I feel, these two things always make me feel better :)
