*sniff.....sneeze......sniffle......cough.....sneeze......drip......wheeze......sniffle.....
It may look cold, gray and gloomy outside like a winter day, but my nose, throat and eyes are telling me otherwise! Yes, along with trees budding and flowers beginning to pop up here and there, the lawns turning green and weeds and bugs reappearing,... so, unfortunately have my allergies! I don't need the weather channel or the Farmer's Almanac to tell me that Spring has arrived, all I have to do is look in the mirror at the dark circles under my eyes, my cherry red nose from blowing and the tears rolling down my cheeks,...yup! It's here!
I look so forward to Spring, warmer temperatures and being outside, but along with that comes the misery of seasonal allergies, every year, just like clockwork. I keep hoping that one of these years my body will have outgrown them or developed an immunity to them, but so far no luck. I'll finally start feeling better around,..oh,..July,...and then around mid-August they'll start kicking in again because the ragweed will begin to bloom. This will go on until the first freeze, somewhere around November.
The really weird thing is, I never had allergies as a kid, not one! I was not allergic to foods, animals, plants,..nothing! I never had seasonal allergies until I was an adult, the first Spring after I had my first child. The doctors have told me that the trauma or stress of pregnancy may have changed my immune system. I have no idea,...all I know is it really stinks!
Anywhoo,... I go to the allergist this afternoon, my yearly visit to have a check-up and get my new prescriptions. I've been on everything under the sun, Claritin, Allegra, Singulair, currently I'm taking Zyrtec-D in combination with Nasonex which have worked pretty well. Unfortunately, Zyrtec has gone over the counter now so I can no longer order it through our mail-in pharmacy. This is a good thing for most people, but not us, because it's much, much cheaper to buy it mail-in than at the store. I checked around and it's nearly $20.00 for a bottle of 24 pills, which would last only two weeks. I can get a 90 day supply, or three months worth of pills for $40.00 mail-in. I'm hoping my doctor has some new prescription medications for me to try, otherwise I'll just have to suck it up, I guess!
Do any of you have seasonal allergies? Any suggestions or opinions on any medications out there at the moment? Give me a holler if you have any ideas, I'd appreciate it! Well, sorry this is so short, I wasn't even sure if I'd post at all, but trying to squeeze everything in! (being that it's not acceptable to not post, per Hallie and Kim-d!) Sheesh! You two are slave drivers!! :o) (but I luv ya!)
I'll just be taking my dripping nose and weepy eyes to the shower now. People who don't know me are avoiding me like the plague, kind of funny! I was at the store the other day sneezing away (so embarrassing) and this woman looked at me and moved away, she probably thought I had a terrible cold or the flu. I wanted to yell, "Hey, come back! It's okay, I'm not sick, really! It's just allergies, honest!", but she had high-tailed it out of there already. I can't blame her, I'd probably do the same thing! :o)
ps. Anyone else having problems with spacing on Blogger? This is driving me nuts!

I use Zyrtec as well. It is the only thing that helps me. I get allergies when the pollen comes out but they go away right after.
Yeah it sucks Zyrtec went OTC. I like it best when my medical insurance picks up my drug tab.
Kim and I made you feel guilty> How did we do that? :)
But damn glad it worked cuz drippy nose or not, I need my Lizzy fix.
If you stop blogging, you may force me into a life on the streets. Can't you just picture me standing on a street corner, twitching uncontrollably, wearing tattered clothes, stopping everyone that goes by..."Brother, can you spare some Lizzy?"
Is that what you want for me?
Jeesh...
Hallie
...and I'll be there, on the street corner, right beside Hallisicle. I'll be the one with the vacant stare, randomly screaming out "Liiiiiizzzzzyyyyyy!" So, yes, while I can completely sympathize with the nose, the eyes, the throat, etc., well, you just still have to keep your adoring public happy. That's just how it is when you have people who love you. So, yeah, suck it up. BWAHAHAHAHA!
On a serious note, I also didn't get allergy-type stuff until I was well into my 30s. I think it had to do with being in a mold-filled "downstairs" office. I shudder to thing what was growing under the carpet down there! I have a standing Rx for Flonase AND Nasonex, and I use OTC Similisan for my eyes. The Similisan is incredibly expensive, but it can't be helped. I have the same deal with mail-in Rx's and the 90-day supply, and just consider myself fortunate to be able to use it for the Flonase!
And those people running away from you? LIGHTWEIGHTS! :) What makes them think they shouldn't get what everyone else has...
Oh man, I always feel awful for people who have to suffer through spring... I have no suggestions though, my allergies are to furry four legged creatures and not having any in our house is the best solution for me.
Do you think you could tell the flowers and pollen and snow dust to vacate?
Hmmm, probably not huh!
Take care and I hope you find a solution soon:-)
waving~~~~~~~kleenex, puffs...I live on (generic) clariton and sudafed (name) I take one of each twice a day and when things get really ugly I have a standing order for nasonex... I never had allergies until after My wisdom teeth had to come out. from then on (I was 21) each year gets progressivly worse. I now take those year round with maybe a few weeks off them here and there... Its so totally annoying. I have things blooming here and pollen... my black truck is yellow and the pines have not really gotten started good yet!
thank you for you comments on my blog I so love visiting yours too!
Feel better
Hugs Laura
I am lucky enough to have never suffered from allergies. I hope you can find some relief. Until then.................bless you ;-)
You poor thing. I do not suffer from any allergies, though my hubbie and son do! It can be very miserable - I am a witness to that! I hope your allergist can provide you with some relief.
Talk to you soon!
Sorry to hear about your allergies. Allergies just wipe ya out! Glad you got some meds.
Blogger is spastic for me quite often, but I haven't noticed anything lately.
I'm sorry you have allergies. My husband and my daugher Chloe are the ones in our family that suffer from cedar and mold. I've been lucky not to - yet. Take care and I hope you get some medicine that helps. See you soon - Kellan
Sorry I have no real advice. I do read something the other day that said not to open windows before 10 am, when the pollen isn't as severe, and not to dry your clothes outside because of the pollen.
I can so relate, as I suffer from indoor as well as outdoor allergies so I really don't get a break at all! I am highly allergic to molds, so rainy days are the worst, and to dust mites, so every morning I wake up sniffling with watery eyes. It's funny, because I am fine until about a minute after I wake up (so Mara waking up every few hours causes my allergies to bother me all night)
I actually do not take anything anymore, as I have been on it all it seems! Especially the past few years, since I have been either pregnant or breastfeeding or both :) I usually suffer through it if I can, and take tylenol allergy on days I cannot. I feel for you, allergies are the worst!
Thanks for stopping by, and sorry I have been MIA for what seems like so long! I still have one clingy little girl, so hopefully I can find some time soon to catch up more!
Lizzy,
I feel your pain. I live on Zyrtec and Zyrtec-D, and it sucks big time that it is OTC. It is much more expensive that way. I'm alleric to everything year around.
Thanks for stopping by.
Steph
You poor thing, seasonal allergies suck the donkey! Take care my friend and eat LOTS of chocolate! :)
Sorry about your allergies Lizzy.
Have you tried spacing in 'edit HTML' instead of 'compose'. That's the only way I can get it to work.
Don't allergies sometimes come with age? I heard that somewhere.
I love Spring too. Bring it on. Sorry for your nose... hope the drugs help enough for you to enjoy the Spring.
I hope the allergies calm soon. I feel for ya! It's no fun being the sneezy one!
My mom is the one who sneezes a lot, almost everyday. No cure til now. You take care, Lizzy.
As for the space in Blogger, what I do is to type everything in Microsoft words, then copy and paste to Blogger. Works well.
Sorry to hear you are all watery-eyed and stuffed-up Lizzy! I don't have allergies, but I'm sure they can be quite a nuisance! And, it's not officially spring yet. It just doesn't seem fair!
Kimmy
Oh yuck, Lizzy. I love spring but I forgot about the allergy stuff too. I'm just like you... as a kid NADA!!!! Then when I hit my 20s I was at someone's cottage and I was wheezing away; it never occurred to me that I could be allergic to something in the lake.
And then in my 30s, the seasonal stuff hit me too; mostly in the spring. It's the opposite with my husband, he had them as a kid, but they're disappearing with age.
I take Claritin, and usually whatever else might be on sale. Sorry not much help, but you have my sympathies!
I just wish we had the spring weather! That is strange that you now have allergies. I always said that I never had allergies too, but I guess I should never say never, right?
Allergy season already! Allergies have very little affect on me unless they are really bad out there. My husband on the other hand is usually pretty miserable!
Sorry they are so bad for you :(
And shame on those people looking at you funny in the store!
Bummer...wish you didn't have to deal with allergies. *knock on wood* I have not had the pleasure. I hope the dr has a new miracle drug for you!
Sorry, no allergy advice to give you. I don't have any.
But my hubby? He really suffers. His allergies act up in June, when the leaves are fully out on the trees, not a day before. He has tried every rx with no luck. He has since given up and has resorted to allergy meds from the dollar store. He claims they work as well any other and are much cheaper.
I miss you so much, Lizzy! Please come back soon. Don't make me come there...
Have a great Good Friday...
Where are you? Why are you neglecting me?
Hallie
Just hoping that you are okay! I miss ya too!
Lizzie,
Hope you have a Happy Easter!!
Steph
Allergies . . . I think I'm in denial. Through sneezes, sniffles, mucous, watery eyes . . . I'm determined not to say, "I have allergies."
Pass me the Zyrtec, please.
I live in a place called Denial like LaskiGirl. I kind of like it here, just so long as I don't end up too miserable.
Sorry that you've got to pay the price for better weather. No fun!
Happy Easter, Lizzy...I hope that darn bunny keeps his fur outta your itchy, watery eyes and stuffy nose!
Take care, girl! Miss ya like crazy.
I was able to beat nasty seasonal allergies by getting knocked up ;) seriously! After my first pregnancy, I never had them again--knock on wood.
My friend is a big believer in lots of vitamin C for allergies--says it works for her.
Sorry your meds are so pricey--that's just insane!
Lizzy, are you free to drop by my blog? I have something for you.
Okay, Lizzy, I don't want to be tiresome, but I just sort of miss you and hope you're feeling okay. Get back here to us soon, Girl. Please? Okay. Bye.
Lizzy, I hope you're doing alright.
Do you ever plan on blogging again?
I just need to know. If not, I was going to devote an entire entry to you and the mourning process I am in since you disappeared.
If you plan on coming back, I will need gifts to forgive you for your lengthy absence.
Hallie
Ok Lizzie, either the allergies have completely taken over you, or maybe it's spring break and you are away on some far away island with no access to the computer. Hopefully all is well, you are lounging in a hammock under some palm trees sipping a margarita in 80 degree weather!
I'll be here in the cold, wet, icky Michigan, waiting...
Dear Lizzy,
I have over 50 posts in my google reader, but it is you that I am concerned about!!!
I hope you are just temporarily sick of us, but you intend to return to blogging real soon.
Seriously, I hope everything is okay. Shoot me an email, if you can.
Amy
I see I haven't been the only one away!
I hope you had a great Easter and hope to hear from you soon...
I have been one very patient peach knowing you were beeing attacked by allergies and family for Easter... but it is Tuesday NIGHT and I MISS YOU! Please PLease Please come back to us Lizzy we need you!
Hugs Laura
Lizzie, look at all your fans who are calling you back! Did you ever imagine when you started your blog...and I was your 2nd reader... that you would have so many friends so fast? Look at all the people concerned about you, me included! Where the heck are ya?
You better get back soon, I am off on my vacation in one week and I don't think I will be able to sit back and relax without knowing of your safety! Alrighty then...I'll just have to keep checkin back on you. *pouting*
We do NAET for any kind of allergy....but until we figure out everything seasonal-wise we take Zyrtec
